Contemporary Circus

Alchemy's latest Contemporary Circus production, The Scattering, explores the continuous distraction of modern life, how we are constantly being bombarded with information and, as a consequence, have become disengaged rather than engaged with the world around us.

It looks at its allure, how we can become consumed by it, and also how it leads to people becoming forgotten, anonymous and displaced.

Oh, and it also tells the story of an Old Goldfish!

This show is a mix of Contemporary Circus, Physical Theatre and Spoken Word.

The Collector Series

The Collector Series are a set of contemporary circus productions focused around the character of The Collector.  A recluse who has boarded himself off from the outside & has created his own world from the discarded scraps of society.

These productions look to paint a semi-fantastical portrait of social isolation & self-imposed identity and to celebrate the seemingly eccentric.
"I absolutely love your work, your ideas, your writing, and your tenacity. This character and story are so tender, gritty, charismatic, quirky and authentic. Also, addressing trauma, mental health, social anxiety, so directly is something I don’t think I’ve seen much of in other spectacle performance. It’s very moving!"
Lisa Zagone - Artist / Designer

The Collector: The Presence of Absence

"This is the story of a man and his remnants.

Together they live on a short street with long shadows, in his former father’s former shop, with a makeshift imagination & a suitcase with just enough space to fit inside.

To others it is a boarded-up memento of uninteresting disintegration.

To him it is a glowing ember in a city of burnt-out memories.

To us it is a space between the sense of things…”
A Contemporary Circus production, The Presence of Absence relates the character’s backstory through a variety of media as he moves through his own world, gradually rebuilding his past.

With an intricate set design, detailed choreography and the unexpected use of everyday objects, writer and performer Will Flanagan brings his background in circus & physical theatre to the fore.

Directed by award winning choreographer and director Eddie Kay, the presence of Absence explores themes of social isolation, mental health and finds the wonder in the seemingly eccentric.
